Roller Hockey dates back to 1921.
It was also an Olympic demonstration sport in 1992 and is currently re-applying for the status.
It was started in Europe ( England) and is now played in all continents.

The beginnings of Roller Hockey in South Africa date back to 1965.

This sport was introduced as part of the Portuguese culture worldwide.
The clubs to initiate Roller Hockey were Uniao CRDP, Everite and Pretoria Da Gama.
By 1968 this had extended to 17 clubs that included teams such as Fiestaland, Falcons, Western Province and Boland.
The South African Federation was then formed in the early 1970’S to oversee the discipline and development of Roller Hockey. It was however registered as a recreational sport originally.

During the transformation period , roller hockey as an affiliate of INOCSA participated actively in the transformation of sport in South Africa.
Not only did it transform Roller Hockey but contributed significantly to sport in general.
As an internationally recognized sport , Roller Hockey was then able to participate in all major competitions.
This includes tournaments in Africa and International competitions that include the World Cup in all categories ie: Junior , Ladies and Men.

South Africa participated for the first time in the World Cup in 1992 in Andorra under the approval and auspices of NOCSA.

In 2005 Roller Hockey SA pioneered the first regional championship between neighbouring Mozambique at club level .

In 2007 the foundation for the African Confederation of Roller Hockey was conceptualized, and is aimed at the development of the sport in Africa.

Roller Hockey is currently experiencing and enjoying a growth at all levels.

The current lack of facilities in the disadvantaged areas is hindering the speed at which we grow.
Nevertheless Roller Hockey has enjoyed a 30% growth in the last 3 years and has laid a good platform for further growth and development of the sport in South Africa.
